Welcome to rustyacresfood.com. My hobby, my passion and my happy place...the kitchen. I realize not everyone loves to cook but feeding people brings me so much joy.
I enjoy it so much I decided to send myself to culinary school in 2012. I signed up for Le Cordon Bleu in Seattle. I commuted from Olympia 5 days a week (its about 60 miles) and I loved it. Everyone kept asking me "what am I going to do with my degree?" Yikes! I had lots of lofty ideas but nothing concrete. So, here I am 9 years after signing up for school, starting my website and enjoying giving "cooking classes" to those who are brave enough to join me.
My cooking style is homey and I enjoy the challenge of making those not so healthy meals, healthier or healthy-ish. Not much brings me greater joy than having those in my life nourished which in turn brings a smile to their faces. We tend to get some "hangry" people in our family from time to time. In my mind a well fed family is a happy family!
One of my husband's "hobbies" is collecting vintage cars
and firetrucks. Every year we host the annual Fall Foley Fire Festival. He pulls the trucks out of our barn (which we keep cars and trucks in not animals) and we invite our family, friends
and acquaintances to come mill around and eat. If you’re wondering where the name “Rusty Acres” comes from...we have a few rusty pieces of iron around the property. I think my husband lovingly refers to them as his projects.
I live in Olympia, Washington with my husband, Eric and our blended family. We have 5 kids whom we brought together when we married in 2015....Tayler (Eric's oldest) Maddie (Eric's 2nd daughter) Isabela (my oldest) Nathan (Eric's youngest) and Sam (my
youngest daughter) and Pippa our furry kid. We live a happy "farm" life...on Rusty Acres...
